Dealer Notes

LOW LOW MILES!! A CARFAX 1OWNER VEHICLE!! A CLEAN CARFAX!! METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED!! REGULARLY SERVICED!!

This newest electric Nissan is quiet, smooth and quick, and power is so immediate that it can chirp its front tires when the driver accelerates with gusto away from a stoplight. The Leaf Plus is an easy car to drive, and it feels substantial, in no way a glorified golf cart. Getting up to freeway speed is easy, and because so much of the vehicle's weight is down low between the axles, the Leaf Plus is far more fun to drive on curvy road than you might expect. In e-Pedal mode, it's fun to experiment with one-pedal driving, with the driver lifting off of the accelerator to use regenerative braking instead of the brake pedal to slow the Leaf Plus and bring it to a complete stop. The e-Pedal system works well, and the lift-off deceleration force can be so strong that Leaf's brake lights will illuminate. As a beginning Leaf driver, I found it hard to be smooth with e-Pedal. It was tough to calculate when to lift off the accelerator as the Leaf Plus approached a stop sign. Typically, I ended up stopping well short of the line. While I did get better at it with experience, I found it easiest to be smooth with the Leaf Plus in Eco mode, which is accessible via a switch on the center console. While Eco makes the Leaf Plus more efficient but noticeably less peppy, its lift-pedal deceleration is much less pronounced and far more natural.

  • why would anyone put down this car?

sure the car has range limitations, but you know that when you buy it. I also own a tesla model 3 dual motor long range, so I get the range issues, but the Leaf is a perfectly good car. Maybe not the most stylish vehicle on the road, but again, I think you know that when you buy it. We've had no issues with the car. It is fun to drive (OK, so not as much fun as my Model 3, but it cost 1/3 less). One thing it excels at, way better than the tesla, is the 360 view makes parking so much easier--I've scraped my wheels too many times in my Model 3 and have sent Elon more than one message to catch up with Nissan in this regard. The blind spot monitor on the Leaf is far superior to the Tesla, and the e-pedal is better than the Tesla as well. Take the car for a drive and decide yourself.

I've had this car for a year now, mostly using it for my short 17 mile commute to work. With 156 miles of range, I can charge a little more than once per week. My SV came loaded with navigation, pro-pilot assist, lane departure, self-adjusting cruise control, etc. But really you don't need those fancy features because you don't have enough range for interstate trips. The biggest complaint is no telescoping steering wheel, I'm 6 feet tall and it's very hard to get a comfortable position. Also the back seat is too tight for my upcoming teenage boys. This is a great 2nd or 3rd car, not good as a primary. Maybe soon the ranges will increase to 300+ and then all the interstate gadgets will actually come in handy.
  • Good range and great value (on sale)

The Leaf is a great car, especially for small families in a city. It has more cargo room than any other electric car that's not twice its price, has great off the line acceleration for merging onto the freeway or turning onto a busy street, and the ProPilot driver assistance features provide a great layer of extra safety without encouraging inattention. The interior is very quiet even on the freeway, so conversations with kids in the backseat are easy, and everyone can listen to the music comfortably. I took off one star in value because at MSRP the Leaf really is overpriced. With careful shopping you should be able to get one for several thousand less, and if you also qualify for the federal tax rebate it is probably the best value car you can buy. We drive ~1000 miles a month and our fuel cost is $100/month less than paying for gas, plus there are almost no maintenance or service costs. You still have to rotate and eventually replace the tires, but there is no oil to replace, the strong regenerative braking means the brake pads should last 100,000 miles, and there are no spark plugs, transmission, timing belt, or exhaust system to maintain. One caveat: the Leaf batteries have historically not fared well in extremely hot places like Phoenix. Avoid the Leaf if you live somewhere it usually gets above 100 F in the summer.
